Default PAYE For Small Business

OK. Need some help here please.
I have heard of online services that would handle my PAYE and payslips etc for a few pounds a month. Should I go with one of these or should I buy a package from Sage and do it myself.

Can anyone recommend a company?

Thanks
IGS

Hello again IGS. Apologies as I don't know this answer off hand. However I am looking into this myself for various business interests that I have. If I find a good service then I will come back and post it for you.

By the way, I also looked at the Sage Payroll software which is close to £100. Something I couldn't figure out was if it produces proper payslips for you. I will call Sage to find out and will post back later.

Hi IGS,
Welcome to the forum.

I think you have to consider some points here before you can make your decision:

How many employees are going to be on your books. In the short term you may only have a few so things should not be so complicated.
Do you have the time to learn a payroll package and then run the payroll process?

With a business in its infancy keeping initial costs down are crucial for survival, but on the other hand its risky taking something on which you have no experience in.

Pay roll services can cost as little as £12 per person per period and should provide everything from payslips, to reconciliation, as well as reporting.

As an example, say you have 3 members of staff their payroll cost per year would be £12x3(employees)x12(pay periods, assuming you have 12)=£432

As Bob pointed out Sage Payroll costs circa £100, so you have to weigh up whether the time you spend on payroll will outweigh the £332 saving you are making by DIYing it.

I use sage payroll. Its pretty simple to use and takes very little time. I spend say 4ish hours per month so for me is cost effective.

The problem with accountants is that they may charge accountant's rates. A lot of this work can be done online, although with an accountant you will get the feeling of security.

Default two things for business insurance

I want to quote two things for business insurance. One is based on payroll and one is based on sales. Comparatively, our payroll will increase more than our total sales will. The payroll quote is through an admitted carrier, while the sales quote is through a non-admitted, but a rated carrier. How do I decide which will be the cheaper one at the end of the year?
