Yes you could do what you want, ALTHOUGH you couldnt call it Firefox and of course you would have to give full credit to where you forked the code from (IE the Mozilla Foundation).

So what do you want to change in Firefox as most things are changable by plug-ins.

If you really do want to change functionality it may be better to go back even further and design and build a completely new browser just based on the Gecko HTML parsing engine (The one that powers Firefox).

The trouble with IE is that there are so many versions out there. And each one needs its own update which doesn't necessarily change the issues on the one you're running.

Firefox roolz! I've used it for years with no hassles.

I'm certainly a firefox man, but for my web development, i've got my ocmputer runnign just about every browser that i could find, and i reallly like Safari, but it needs some work to be good enough for Windows - it rules on Apple though
IE7 = FF with a facelift and some copyrighted code. Simple

I don't like Safari. They've taken everything else that anyone has done well in, and copied it (even more so than IE7 copied Firefox, in my opinion).

Yuck.

I'm split now 50-50 with Internet Explorer and Firefox.

I have not had any experience with Safari at all - but judging by you guys it does not sound to hot!
