Default Good Business Books

What are the best business books that you have read?

I was really inspired by the Richest Man in Babylon, but for a book jam packed with tips it has to be Jay Abraham's "Getting Everything You Can Out of All You've Got" I think that Jay Abraham is one of the most interesting people around, especially for his stress on referals and customer relationships.

I don't read many business books, but one I did read awhile I found quite interesting "Inside the magic kingdom" by Tom Connellen.

Its basically how Disney have become the company they are, how their customer service is run etc. Its a very light weight read, don't expect major business analysis here, but sometimes those are the books you get most from.

The main reason I read it, it was I used to work for a betting company (Not one you would have heard of), the MD read it, thought it was so good he bought a copy for everyone in the company (around 40 people) and asked we read it.

Also looking on Amazon you can pick up a copy for 47p + postage.

Thanks for that. I keep on picking up Duncan Ballantyne's book but have not taken it out to the check out yet.

I was at a Waterstone and just missed a signing by him. Apparantly only 12 people had turned up.

Only 12 people? In some way doesnt really surprise me, half of book signings seem to be advertised by a small poster in a window, which you may just about see.

May put his book on the Xmas list, would be nice to get a non-IT related book for a change.

It's quite an easy read. I do, however, find the idea that "anyone can do it" to be unrealistic. Can anyone do it including negotiation, pricing, cash flow management, etc?

Last business related book I read was 'A happiness Centred Business' by Dr Paddi Lund. The author is a dentist based in Brisbane Australia. It basically tell the story of how he turned his life and business around (he is currently the most successful dental practice in Oz). Really good read, very good concepts you can apply to your own company.

There is a type of person who can do it really well, but yes anyone can do these things if they put their mind to it. I've just changed jobs and I negioated an extra 5k on my salary + extra perks, I'm not a business person as such (although I could do it I choose not to for the time being), I can do accounts, I can sell (again not very well), hell I would be better at business than a lot of business people I know.

Half the time its just a case of trying.
