I have pondered for quite a while as to how to go about approaching the bigger supermarket chains in regards to potentially stocking my products, i don't want to just witre a letter as it will more than likely get binned, any idea as to how I might approach this?

find out who the local buyer is and ask to meet them or send a sample and request a meeting? maybe ask if you could do a tasting at a local shopping centre and invite the buyers of the chains to come and taste? at the same time you will be getting people familiar with your product - ask them to fill up a survey and give them a flyer asking them to request their supermarket stock it for them etc

I know a few small businesses that have delt with supermarkets, and the resounding feed back was be very careful as they are ruthless. They can gear your business up to sell millions of units and then pull the plug in a very short period of time, leaving you totally in the lurch.
One way to get your products into supermarkets is to use middlemen. There are many companies out there that act as food brokers who will supply your product via their network. You will loose a bit of margin but gain security. If you do a search via google you will get a list of companies. |
